You are choosing someone to represent you in parliament. That is the bones of the issue.

You are choosing Jim, Bob or Jill to be your local MP and represent you in national affairs. On paper you are voting for a party, but really you are voting for a person.

Even if we accept that you vote for the party, by not having the right to choose who within that party will represent you then you have lost a degree of democracy.

But you still get to elect your local MSP.

The regional is a top-up system. I do get the Sturgeon point, but I think it is acceptable under the current system.

If you vote for parties, not people, you are voting for a list of values (or lack thereof, in most cases), and not for a representative.

I'd vote Yes if I was old enough, simply as I prefer it over FPTP.

I thought you were against 'direct democracy' - so why go against your beliefs and vote in a referendum which is afterall, direct democracy?

As for myself in this upcoming referendum, I will be voting but I will be spoiling my vote - i'm not voting in support of either the Liberal Democrats or the Conservative Party or their silly little non-proportional systems which only serve to keep themselves in power.

I will be adding the box 'proportional representation' and ticking that.
