The EU should sink boats carrying illegal immigrants to prevent them entering Europe, British National Party leader Nick Griffin has told the BBC.

The MEP for the North-West of England said the EU had to get "very tough" with migrants from sub-Saharan Africa.

"Frankly, they need to sink several of those boats.

"Anyone coming up with measures like that we'll support but anything which is there as a 'oh, we need to do something about it' but in the end doing something about it means bringing them into Europe' we will oppose."

The interviewer, BBC Correspondent Shirin Wheeler, said: "I don't think the EU is in the business of murdering people at sea."

In the words of Kent Brockman "I've said it before and I'll say it again - democracy doesn't work."

Seriously though, we have another 5 years of this cretin preaching his nonsensical ideas around. Who said politics in this country was at its lowest ebb??

That's treason, off to the tower with you.
Noone really hates the French, they are our old rivals. Our most dear enemies.

Not mine. I love the French, and I actually want to live there for a few years and travel around when I can. But out of curiousity, where did all this "hatred" between Britain and France come from? I thought it was from the French Revolution because they got rid of their Monarchy and Britain feared a similar situation would happen on its on soil. But apparently they hated each other, or at least had some kind of rivalry, decades before all that.

Edit: I just remembered that it went way back to the times of Shakespeare so much longer than a few decades, almost a century before the French Revolution.

We have hated France since the 11th century mate. There have also been many wars fought against them. Hundred years War, Napoleon and all that. And remember Agincourt!

The French are also so unlike British people. But I don't personally "hate" them it is just rivalry like with Australia in the ashes....

Well you learn something knew every day. I've never really gotten into English history all that much, so I'm sorry if this all common knowledge I've just never been drawn to it that much to look into it that much deeper.

We have hated the French since the Normans(who were posh Vikings) invaded. It arose from arguments over Norman, later English, lands in France. At one point the conflict almost ended under Henry V, but he died and the not even 1 year old mentally ill Henry VI wasn't up to keeping the Crown of England let alone the French one. The last English possession in France was lost by Mary I, but English, later British, monarchs styled themselves "King of France" until the formation of the UK in 1801. It ended after the Napoleonics, wherein France was no longer a great power and wasn't willing to challenge the lone Hyperpower that was Britain on anything. (I miss the good old days)
